I was browsing through Facebook a few months back when I saw a post of one of my friends. He shared a picture of the icecream he bought at Roxas Night Market (geotag). In the photo's caption, he stated that he bought this icecream from Mang Danny. I was a bit curious. So I browsed through the comments section and a few people commented that Mang Danny has been selling Ice Cream for a while now and has started to sell in Roxas Night Market.
To feed my curiosity, I told my husband that we should pay Mang Danny a visit and try his icecream. My husband, being the most awesome husband that he is (plus he knows the level of tantrums I make when I don't get what I want... hihihihi), agreed and we scheduled our Icecream-Ni-Mang-Danny date on our first monthsary as husband and wife. (awweeeeeeeeeee)
We stayed at Marco Polo during our first monthsary and Roxas Night Market was just a 5-minute walk away from the Hotel. Timing, huh? :)
So after checking in the hotel, we immediately went to Roxas Night Market. Mang Danny was nowhere in sight when we got there. We asked a few vendors and they said we were a bit early to catch Mang Danny. It was around 7 that time. So hubby and I decided to eat dinner at one of the BBQ stalls around the area. After eating, we tried our luck again. We noticed a lot of people that was concentrated in one area and they were so noisy. I head one of them say "Mang Danny".
The one in the middle is the very famous MANG DANNY. |
Oh you know, just one of those patiently waiting to have a bite of Mang Danny's Icecream :) |
When we got a little closer, there he was... Mang Danny and his Icecream cart. I immediately lined up (well, lined up is not really the proper term to be used since that time, people were circling around his cart trying to get his attention to sell them icecream). One by one, the people infront of me already had their icecream fix and when it was my turn... "Mang Danny, duha palihog" (Mang Danny, two please) - I gave him 30 pesos (I heard from one of the buyers that 3 scoops of Icecream is worth 15 pesos, 4 scoops is 20 pesos). I opted to buy the 15 peso icecream first. I had my regrets! I should have gotten the 20 peso icecream for 4 scoops... or better yet, should have brought a BIG BOWL and asked Mang Danny "PLS FILL THIS UP I DON'T CARE HOW MUCH I HAVE TO PAY"
By the way, I lined up about an HOUR before I got a chance to buy from Mang DANNY. The crowd was that HUGE! I actually pitied Mang Danny because people were screaming everywhere asking him to sell them a scoop. And it was him who was receiving the cash and counting/giving change with no sufficient light. Good thing the customers were nice enough to use their cellphone flashlights to help him out.

HURRAY FOR ICECREAM :D :D :D |
I shared a collage picture of this on facebook and a few of my friends became a bit curious as well. But when they asked me why such the Mang Danny Craze, simple... THE ICECREAM WAS JUST FANTASTIC! Why fantastic? I couldn't really describe it but I hope that this would do a bit justice - Mang Danny's icecream was definitely the creamiest icecream I have ever tasted. Period. It is how Icecream should definitely taste like! And for 15 pesos (That time) the effort of lining up for a long period of time was worth it... WORTH IT.
We visited Roxas Night Market again and this time, I was glad because buying from Mang Danny was more organized. There was literally a snake-like line and he has somebody helping him out that was standing next to him (I'm not sure but I think she's his wife) So Mang Danny just had to concentrate on selling icecream. Oh, and there's sufficient light for him this time.
Excuse my face. The line to Mang Danny's Iecream |
Oh you'd know right then and there if that's really Mang Danny's Cart. Obvious huh ;) |
MY TURN! YEAY! I'm glad lining up is already quite organized this time :) |
Mang Danny's Icecream. Now 20 pesos each for 3 scoops! Still not that bad of a deal considering how it tastes like! |
Curious? Have a taste of Mang Danny's icecream. I guarantee you, it's worth the long wait. Just be patient in lining up... Nothing good ever comes easy (wink wink)
Roxas Night Market is open every night from 6pm and up... in front of Ateneo de Davao University along Roxas Area, Davao City.
XOXO,
A I A
